Existing AP and AR L Battery Charging Times

Priority charging applies when the batteries are inserted more than five seconds apart. Parallel charging applies when both batteries are inserted within five seconds. The nine-minute 80% charging time requires compatible ALLPRO Performance batteries and battery and ambient temperatures between 25°C and 40°C. AR L batteries require the correct connecting cable and adapter.

High-Speed Charging for Professional Battery Fleets

The STIHL AL 1802 MO is a two-slot charger for professional users who need to keep AP and ALLPRO batteries moving throughout the working day. With up to 1,800 W of charging output, it can charge one battery at up to 42 A or divide the available current between two batteries.

This makes it particularly useful for landscaping, forestry, arboriculture and grounds-maintenance teams that would rather cycle a smaller number of batteries than carry a large stock of fully charged packs.

Priority and Parallel Charging Explained

The charging mode depends on when the two batteries are inserted:

• Priority charging: insert the second battery more than five seconds after the first. The first battery is prioritised and can receive up to 42 A before charging moves to the second battery.
• Parallel charging: insert both batteries within five seconds. Both batteries charge simultaneously at up to 21 A per slot.

Priority mode is the quickest way to return one compatible battery to work. Parallel mode is useful when two batteries need charging together and neither one needs to be prioritised.

Selected ALLPRO Batteries Reach 80% in Nine Minutes

The AL 1802 MO can charge the ALLPRO AP 100 P, AP 200 P and AP 300 P or AP 300 PC to 80% in as little as nine minutes when used in priority mode.

This nine-minute figure applies when the battery and ambient temperature are between 25°C and 40°C. Charging may take longer when a battery is particularly hot, cold, aged or outside its preferred charging conditions.

Works with Existing AP Batteries

The charger is not limited to the latest ALLPRO Performance batteries. It also supports established STIHL AP batteries, making it suitable for businesses transitioning gradually to the newer battery range.

• AP 200 S: 80% in 15 minutes and 100% in 40 minutes
• AP 300 S: 80% in 15 minutes and 100% in 35 minutes
• AP 500 S: 80% in 15 minutes and 100% in 40 minutes in priority mode

The AP 500 S takes slightly longer when two batteries are charged simultaneously because each slot receives a maximum of 21 A.

Active Battery Cooling

Both charging slots actively cool the inserted batteries. This helps manage the heat generated during high-current charging and supports faster repeat charging during demanding working days.

The charger may reduce the charging current if a battery is too hot or too cold. This protects the battery and means the published charging times should be treated as best-case figures under the stated conditions.

Suitable for Workshop, Vehicle and Outdoor Charging

The AL 1802 MO is built for use in workshops, properly equipped work vehicles and outdoor working areas. Its IPX4 rating provides protection against splashing water from all directions.

IPX4 does not make the charger waterproof. It should not be submerged, placed in standing water or connected through unsuitable plugs and extension leads in wet conditions.

Power Supply Requirements

The charger requires a suitable 220–240 V electrical supply and can draw up to 2,000 W when operating at full output. The socket, extension lead, inverter or portable power source must be capable of supporting this sustained demand.

A standard vehicle accessory socket is not suitable. Vehicle use requires a properly installed 230 V supply with enough continuous output and suitable protection.

Charging from the STIHL PS 2000

The AL 1802 MO can be powered by the STIHL PS 2000 Portable Power Station for high-speed battery charging away from fixed mains electricity.

Because the charger can draw close to the PS 2000’s full 2,000 W continuous output, other high-powered equipment should not be operated from the power station at the same time.

Charging AR L Backpack Batteries

Compatible STIHL AR L backpack batteries can also be charged using the correct AR L connecting cable and adapter. They cannot be inserted directly into the standard AP charging slots.

The required accessories depend on the exact AR L battery model, so these should be checked before ordering.

Not Compatible with the STIHL CM 8

The AL 1802 MO is not designed for use with the STIHL CM 8 Charging Management Solution. Businesses already using a CM 8 should retain compatible chargers for that system rather than adding the AL 1802 MO to it.

AL 1802 MO or AL 501?

The AL 501 remains a good single-slot option for routine AP battery charging. The AL 1802 MO is better suited to professional teams that need two slots, faster ALLPRO charging, active cooling and the option to charge outdoors or from a properly equipped vehicle.
