A Reduced-Price Professional Mower for Regular Mulching
This ex-display STIHL RM 4 RTP is a dedicated petrol mulching mower made for maintaining larger grassed areas without collecting the clippings. It has a 53 cm cutting width, self-propelled drive and a commercial-style build designed for regular work.
As an ex-display machine, it may have minor cosmetic marks from storage, handling or display. Please contact us for photographs and a full description of its condition before ordering.
What Is a Dedicated Mulching Mower?
Rather than collecting cut grass, the RM 4 RTP repeatedly chops the clippings into small pieces and returns them to the lawn. These fine clippings settle between the grass blades, where they break down naturally.
This saves time because there is no grass box to empty and no pile of clippings to dispose of afterwards. It works best on lawns that are cut regularly, particularly when the grass is reasonably dry.
If you need to collect clippings or regularly tackle heavily overgrown grass, this is not the right type of mower. The RM 4 RTP is built specifically for frequent mulching.
53 cm Cutting Width for Large Lawns
The 53 cm deck gives good coverage across open lawns, parks, orchards and other maintained grassed areas. STIHL lists the machine for lawn areas up to 2,500 m².
Cutting height is controlled through a central five-position adjustment covering 30 to 70 mm. This lets you alter the entire mower from one control rather than adjusting each wheel separately.
Self-Propelled Front-Wheel Drive
The single-speed front-wheel drive moves the mower forward at approximately 4.6 km/h. You guide the machine while the drive takes care of the forward movement, reducing the physical effort required across larger areas.
Front-wheel drive also makes turning easier because pressure on the handle can lift some weight from the driven wheels when changing direction.
Made to Withstand Regular Work
The RM 4 RTP uses a cast aluminium deck supported by reinforced axle clamps and axle bolts. Additional protection is fitted around the front and side of the deck, crankshaft and gearbox.
These features are particularly relevant for contractors, grounds teams and other users who expect the mower to work frequently rather than a few times each season.
Comfort and Transport
The soft-grip handle helps reduce the vibration reaching your hands during longer mowing sessions. Front and rear carrying handles provide secure lifting points when loading or repositioning the machine.
The mower weighs 44 kg, so suitable lifting assistance should be used when loading it into a vehicle.
Who Should Buy the RM 4 RTP?
This mower suits professional users and homeowners maintaining large lawns on a regular schedule. It is particularly useful where collecting and disposing of grass takes too much time.
Choose it if you want a dedicated mulching machine with self-propelled drive. Look at a collection mower instead if you need to remove clippings or mow areas that are frequently left to grow long.
