The STIHL MSA 220 T Series cordless chainsaw range is designed for certified arborists who need strong cutting performance, precise control, and reduced fatigue when working at height. Built around STIHL’s AP battery system, these professional top-handle saws deliver petrol-like performance without exhaust fumes or excessive noise, making them well suited to crown reduction, deadwood removal, and aerial cutting.
STIHL MSA 220 T Series AP Battery Run Time
| Battery | AP 200 S | AP 300 S | AP 500 S |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical runtime* | Up to 21 minutes | Up to 24–29 minutes | Up to 34 minutes |
Runtime varies depending on the selected model, cutting load, and battery choice. Higher-output versions may draw more power under load while completing cuts faster. All MSA 220 T Series models are compatible with STIHL AR backpack batteries for extended ground-based use, although backpack systems are generally less practical for aerial climbing.
Why choose the STIHL MSA 220 T Series cordless top-handle chainsaw?
Strong, controlled cutting performance
The MSA 220 T Series represents STIHL’s most powerful cordless top-handle chainsaws. All models use a 3/8" P saw chain and are available with either a 30 cm (12") or 35 cm (14") guide bar, allowing you to match the saw to different branch sizes and cutting tasks. Cutting performance is clean, fast, and predictable, making these saws suitable for both fine pruning and heavier limb removal.
Three models within one professional platform
The MSA 220 T offers a straightforward professional setup focused on balance, reliability, and cutting performance.
The MSA 220 TC-O adds an LED display on the top handle showing operating status and chain brake position, along with an oil sensor that warns when chain lubrication is low.
The MSA 220.1 TC-O is the latest model in the range, delivering increased torque under load with Power Boost technology, while retaining the LED display and oil monitoring features for improved control during demanding work.
Precise and intuitive control
All models feature an electronic trigger system with unlock button for smooth, predictable throttle response. The compact top-handle layout and excellent power-to-weight balance help reduce wrist and arm fatigue during extended climbing work. A fold-out suspension hook allows the saw to be secured or lowered safely when repositioning in the tree.
Durable, weather-ready construction
With an IPX4 rating, the MSA 220 T Series is suitable for use in typical UK weather conditions. An easy-to-clean air filter supports consistent cooling and long service life, while side-mounted chain tensioning, captive sprocket-cover nuts, and a tool-free oil tank cap simplify routine maintenance on site.
Flexible battery options
The AP 300 S battery offers the best balance of power and handling for most users. The AP 500 S provides longer runtime for extended cutting sessions, though it may affect balance when working aloft. The MSA 220.1 TC-O also supports the lighter AP 200 S, which can reduce fatigue during long days in the tree.
The MSA 220 T is compatible with all AP batteries shown above. It can also be used with AR 2000 L and AR 3000 L backpack batteries for significantly longer run times: up to 315 minutes with AR 2000 L and up to 500 minutes with AR 3000 L.
