Stihl GTA 40 Cordless Pruner – Professional Power, Compact Control
The Stihl GTA 40 is a powerful two-handed cordless pruner designed for professional use on the ground or at height. With a 15cm bar and upgraded 21.6V battery system, it’s the next step up from the Stihl GTA 26 and Stihl GTA 30 – ideal for arborists, landscapers, and serious DIYers who need more reach, torque, and cutting capacity.
It runs on two AS 2 batteries in parallel, delivering up to 50 minutes of runtime and up to 190 cuts on 5cm branches. The 15 cm light guide bar and 1/4″ PM3 chain give clean, smooth cuts — perfect for controlled work in trees, tight spaces, or wood construction.
Its rubberised grip, balanced design, and overload ring make it easy to handle on the ground or in the air. An onboard LED charge indicator keeps you informed, while features like side-mounted chain tensioning and automatic lubrication make daily use simple.

How to Use and Maintain the GTA 40
1. Charge Batteries & Fill Oil
Use 2x AS 2 batteries and the AL 5 charger. Fill with STIHL BioPlus Chain Oil using the filling system to reduce spills.
2. Check Chain Tension
Adjust using the side-mounted tensioner — no tools required.
3. Clean After Use
Remove sawdust, wipe down with STIHL Varioclean, and store in a dry place.
